One of the most widely used web browsers, Google Chrome, will cease operations for anyone still running Microsoft's Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems. Apparently, the corporation announced its choice in a blog post on Monday of last week.
"Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 support is ending. The last Chrome version to support these versions of Windows is Chrome 110, which is tentatively scheduled for release on February 7th, 2023, according to the blog post.
"We recommend you to upgrade to a supported Windows version if you are currently using Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 so that you may continue to receive the most recent security updates and Chrome features," it continued.
Notably, Chrome's newest version, known as "Chrome 110," will be tentatively released in February of next year. The web browser will be accessible to users of the two operating systems, but they won't get any security updates or further support.
Users may be more vulnerable to hacking if there are no security upgrades since hackers frequently leverage security gaps in outdated software to carry out their scams. Furthermore, the instability of the aforementioned OS's may make the issue worse because Microsoft has also stopped supporting them.
The choice made by Chrome is consistent with the position stated by Microsoft. The Redmond-based business is rumored to have also made plans to stop providing support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users on January 10, 2023.
